State Releases Shale Production Totals

Martins Ferry Times Leader.  Ohio’s Utica and Marcellus shale wells produced 4 million barrels of oil and 388 billion cubic feet of natural gas during the second quarter of 2017.

Gas production was up 16 percent from the same quarter a year ago, but oil production dropped 17 percent, according to the state Department of Natural Resources.

The state recorded production from 1,659 horizontal shale wells during the quarter. Those wells averaged:

2,438 barrels of oil.

234 million cubic feet of natural gas.

5.2 million barrels of brine.

85 days of production.

Harrison County was the top oil producer with nearly 1.5 million barrels.

Belmont County was the top natural gas producer with 172 billion cubic feet of natural gas.
