Ohio Natural Gas & Oil Essential to Modern Life, Federal Report Confirms

Latest Department of Energy report details the critical importance of Ohio production to America’s economy, environmental gains, and national security

Granville, OH – Ohio produced natural gas and oil is essential to delivering reliable, affordable electricity, driving economic growth, enhancing air quality, and sustaining our quality of life, a major new U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) concluded. The DOE report, released during Energy Awareness Month, affirms the messages Ohioans have been hearing from the Ohio Oil and Gas Energy Education Program’s (OOGEEP) statewide “Essential Ohio Energy” campaign: natural gas and oil is an essential part of modern life.

As the nation’s fifth largest natural gas producer, Ohio-produced energy is a significant contributor to America’s economy, environmental gains, manufacturing resurgence, and national security. In fact, a recent public opinion survey by the Progressive Policy Institute shows Ohio voters oppose a ban on natural gas by a 57 point margin and large majorities recognize the industry’s importance to the state.

“The Department of Energy’s report confirms the role of natural gas and oil in reliably and efficiently delivering modern life’s most essential items: reliable power, economic growth, environmental progress, and millions of consumer products we use every day,” said John Schlichter, the Executive Director of OOGEEP.

OOGEEP’s statewide, multi-platform digital and television marketing campaign, “Essential Ohio Energy”, has been on air since Labor Day and educates Ohioans about the critical nature of Ohio-produced natural gas and oil. When Ohioans look beyond the gas pump or the electric bill, natural gas and oil is a key feedstock to nearly every product they use on a daily basis and the marketing campaigns serves as a reminder that in order to maintain the quality of life American’s love, natural gas and oil is essential.

“As a leading state in domestic energy production, Ohio is contributing to the shared, essential economic, environmental and national security benefits Americans enjoy,” Schlichter continued. “That’s why Americans, and Ohioans specifically, overwhelmingly support the continued use of natural gas and oil.”
